The act of hiding things is the creation of mystery. The what is and why it is twitch at us, and we are uncomfortable not knowing what’s behind the veil. Yet we rarely pierce behind a person’s veil, and often we are not observant enough to even know there is a veil up. It’s like people hide in plain sight. We hide behind things we create, illusions or slices of who we are, how we choose to be perceived to different people. Here, she literally created her own veil, a necklace she crafted herself. She is both fully revealed – there is little more to see of he – yet we see nothing of her. Her face, her full personality, eludes us behind her creation. For me this speaks to how we hide. Intentionally we hide behind the facades we create. We do so for many reasons; sometimes fully, sometimes letting controlled glimpses in through the veils. Sometimes the mystery is planned, sometimes it is done so well that we don’t even notice things being hidden. Always, there is more hidden.
The View in the Room Collection
My approach for the View in the Room Collection was to create mood with one light, in a simple uncluttered space. The room’s wall and flooring, accented by the light was to give the images a sense of the past, a richness, to the core of each image. With that as the base, explore the diversion of the figure within it. Some of the collection is full of enjoys of depth of meaning, some are just mood and figure.
